The Southern Regional Fisheries Board (SRFB) is the statutory authority charged with ensuring that the Inland Fisheries within its jurisdiction are conserved, managed, developed, promoted and utilised in a sustainable manner. The SRFB is responsible for the catchment areas of the Rivers Blackwater (Munster) Suir, Nore and Barrow. These catchement areas alone total 14,000 sq. km of catchment. The rivers drain in excess of 2,000km2 each. The region covers the counties of Kerry (part), Cork (part), Tipperary (part), Waterford, Wexford (part), Kilkenny, Laois, Carlow, Kildare (part) and Offaly (part). The SRFB headquarters are in Clonmel while the majority of the resources are dedicated to the local areas where the operational work is carried out.
The Board comprises of 31 Staff and 22 Board members. These Board members
are selected through election and Ministerial Appointments. The Board's
chief executive officer implements decisions developed and agreed by the
Board.
