The Southern Regional Fisheries Board is the statutory authority charged with ensuring that the Inland Fisheries within its jurisdiction are conserved, managed, developed, promoted and utilised in a sustainable manner.
This jurisdiction covers the four largest rivers found in southern Ireland - Blackwater (Munster), Suir, Nore and Barrow (a total of 4,818 sq miles of waters). In addition to the minor catchments of the Rivers Womanagh, Colligan, Mahon, Tay, Owenduff and Corrach, and all their tributaries. We are also charged with the responsibility of the coastline from Ballycotton, Co. Cork, west to Killen Bay, Co. Wexford.
This area includes all the bays and estuaries within this remit including Youghal and Waterford Estuaries, Whiting and Bannow Bay's. This area is in excess of 100 miles, extending to 12 nautical miles from base lines. In addition we are also responsible for three sections of the Grand Canal and the entire Barrow branch of the Grand Canal. Many of the lakes and reservoirs, within our remit such as Grantstown, Templemore, Ballyhonock, Ballyshunnock and Knockaderry, have been developed under various EU and National Funded Projects.
